In His Own Words

About him

I have just moved to south devon, and it would like someone to show me around!

I would like share an enjoyment of good food, and a connection with ingredients, products and a community. A part of the interest in food, and slow food, is actually taking the time to have conversations around the table, when it's not just about food, or the booze. I would like to meet someone who likes to be a good host, who shares the view that the kitchen is the heart and soul of the home (and the work involved!). I still dream of a wee house in the country, with a wood burning oven, belfast sink and butcher's block. No fitted kitchen, 109 inch plasma screen, or Ikea interest-free credit.

I am grateful for my son, Joshua, and I am also grateful to his mother who looks after him so well, he's a little star. A part of my life will always be for him, and I find that tremendously exciting and I feel blessed he is in my life. There is still a point in my life where I would like to be in a "normal", mutually supportive relationship. I would like to be in a relationship that gets blend right between relationships at work and a personal life.

I generally have an incapacity for small-talk and dislike 'banter', unless it's with close and genuine friends. I enjoy silliness, in a Monty Python type of way, and appreciate dark, knowing humour like Blackadder and The Simpsons - I like to remain as least deceived as possible I grow up! In part it's why I have chosen my career path, and I don't like to see others and blindly accepting the status quo.

About his ideal match

I would like to meet someone who agreed that there is more to life than increasing its speed. Someone who celebrates a well contested draw with India perhaps, someone who has a sense of perspective. Someone who appreciates the fact the acts such as foreign travel, university courses or job titles don't make you wise, or passionate, by default. I would like someone who will challenge me, someone who is not afraid of communicating when something is wrong, or just doesn't feel right - someone who is happy and fulfilled or has the courage to try to change their world or themselves to become happy and fulfilled, even if that may seem a painful thing to do at the time.

Random likes, in a lazy, stream of conscious way:

the shipping forecast, seagulls, open fires, single-malt whisky, the predictability that the first beer at olympia will be a porter, good friends, chewing the fat, comfortable train journeys, people watching, mint tea, souks, mountains, clean air, fresh herbs, sharp knives, marmalade making, limes, the jungle, the world cup, crossing the tyne, foraging, huge waves and rugged coastlines, the pub, comfort.

Music: disco, 80s, ska, drum and bass. haydn, rachmaninov, glass. bob dylan, pink floyd, paul weller, david bowie, madonna, nina simone, fleetwood mac, robyn hitchcock, manu chao
Films: 12 angry men, life is beautiful, city of god, the pianist, ratatouille, the king's speech, groundhog day, la haine, the truman show, sideways, the life of brian, jerry maguire, goodbye lenin, lost in translation
Books: the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, to kill a mockingbird, philip larkin, calvin and hobbes, brave new world, zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance and other random dips into philosophy
