In His Own Words

About him

I believe that I'm a pretty grounded sort of an individual, self aware and at peace with myself, someone who looks for and readily enjoys the simpler things in life. An evening, with good friends, enjoying a glass of wine (or beer) and "catching up" on what has happened since we last met up always gets my vote. I do have a dry sense of humour, for which I completely blame my old school friends. I also try my best to be an optimist who sees the best in every situation and who believes that more often than not it's an optical illusion and the glass really is at least half full.

I enjoy literature, art, meeting new people (I have never managed, and nor would I want, to suppress my "northerner" trait of being happy talking to completely random strangers), the countryside, music, history and sport - although please don't ask me to rank those things because that would be almost impossible and I might want to change my mind less than an hour later (so maybe we should also add being indecisive to that list!). I used to enjoy playing Rugby and, more recently, Cricket, but an old injury means I have now, sadly, had to give both those up. However I was introduced to five a side football and now try and play that once a week to try and keep something approaching fit. Holidays I have enjoyed in the past have included a fortnight helping to crew a Tall Ship sailing around the Inner Hebrides, a week as part of a group walking Hadrian's Wall coast to coast and a week spent, last year, walking in the Somme area of France, trying the local beers, chips and mayo on the way round whilst exploring the history of the area. I certainly enjoy short trips away - spending a relaxing few days exploring the history, culture and hospitality of a previously unknown corner of this country.

I have no pets of my own but with two sisters who have between them cats, dogs, guinea pigs, ducks, hens, horses, ponies, rabbits, aquarium fish, tortoises, koi carp, and, until recently, goats - then I regularly get my pet "fix" whenever I see them.

About his ideal match

Put simply, if anything I have written above interests you then feel free to drop me a line - we might have more in common than you think. I'm certainly looking for someone who will bring their own interests into the mix (I know very well that I don't have a monopoly on great ideas - far from it).

I'm looking for someone who. like me, enjoys the simple things in life done well - or can have a laugh about it when they are done badly. Someone who shares some of my interests and, at the same time, brings their own to the mix which I can learn about with them. I do, often, live in the moment and it would be nice to have some company to share some of those moments with.

When I'm not working, or busy with the every day tasks that life throws at all of us, I like to relax by going on countryside walks, visiting friends and family around the country, going to watch live sports events and I pander to my creative side by researching and writing history articles for magazines, newspapers and other publications.

And if, having read through my profile you decide not to follow up by sending me a message then I wish you all the very best in finding what it is you are looking for on this site.
