About him
My friends will tell you that I have a good, though quirky, sense of humour; that I am a generous nurturing person with a streak of stubbornness; that I am a positive, optimistic thinker and I am intensely loyal to those who know me.
I play and teach Classical guitar, with an abiding love and interest in South American music. I love travelling, and have played guitar in France, Germany, Spain, Madeira and even as far afield as Vitebsk in Belaruss. In 2014 I produced a CD of Classical guitar music, that has sold well (at least by classical standards), especially over the internet through Amazon, iTunes, Spotify etc.
I enjoy writing poetry - not at all sure if this a good or bad thing to admit to in a profile such as this - and have had a number of them published in paperback anthologies.
As an ex-smoker, I'm not keen on it, but I never judge anyone on such minor things.
Although always a musician at heart, I have a great thirst for knowledge, and interest in just about everything - with the exception of soap operas and football, which I find equally pointless. I carried out Doctoral research in Psychology at the end of the 90s, and I am now embarking on an MRes in Ethnomusicology - more for my own enlightenment than for any personal advancement.
I am severely visually impaired (still have some vision), but have never let this get in my way, enjoying long country walks with my beautiful guide dog, Flame (also known as Floozie!). I've included a photo of her in my profile - she always attracts far more attention than ever I could! It's a bit like walking around with a film star.
I see my visual disability as a challenge, and have never let it stop me from doing anything, including major building work on my home. I always tell people that so long as you stay at the right end of power tools, poor vision doesn't really come into it!
I am told that I'm not a bad cook - and I have no problems washing up too! I enjoy good wine, and good conversation. I jog most days, and very much enjoy swimming when I'm able to.
About his ideal match
I have two sisters (one my twin), and have always loved the company of intelligent and open minded women - not being into sports makes interaction with many (though not all) other men somewhat limited, and I am not the macho type that seems to be obsessed with such things. I would love to meet someone with similar interests to my own, who is bright and willing to talk about everything under the sun; who likes walking in the countryside, cuddles on the beach, and who doesn't object to lively discussions.
A deal breaker for me would always be unfaithfulness. My parents always told us, wisely I believe, that although love is important to a relationship, loyalty trumps it every time.
