Oh, I don't know, I'm only a bloke, somewhat torn between a rural future and a suburban present. My chickens and I constantly debate whether to relocate to the sweet, gentle dales of Northumberland, to live out our days under big skies, where the grouse gurgle, the curlews shriek, the lapwings buzz, the snipe do that weird thing that snipe do, where the weather is everything, where we'd feel in our bones the turning of the seasons, spinning, as the singer sang, into infinity.
I'd be able finally to set up the astronomical telescope, go for night walks, dig a frog pond, have owls in the outhouse. But then again, out there, where, I wonder, would I find the essentials of life, like a good hot yoga class, a bicycle repair shop, interesting bread. And supposing there were a little patch of land. Even with a home-working day job, where would I find the time to sow the seeds, plant the trees, shear the sheep, mend the fences.
Thus are our lives blighted by indecision.
