Hi there,
I hope that you'd find me to be a kind, caring, and honest chap. I care a lot about nature and the environment and I try to live gently. I've been vegetarian since I was 16, and increasingly vegan over recent years. I am against any activities that involve hurting animals.
I'm a scientist, and I have a masters degree in chemistry and a PhD in molecular biology. After spells doing academic research and working in the civil service, I now work in consultancy on the regulation of chemicals in food and the environment, for a not-for-profit organisation.
In my spare time I play the violin in regular concerts with a local orchestra. I have a general interest in cultural activities such as watching classical and other music concerts or going to galleries, museums, the theatre, historical sites and so on. I'm especially into playing and watching folk music.
Having mostly lived in Yorkshire and Scotland, I'm also into hiking and hillwalking including winter hikes with an ice axe and crampons, Munro bagging, and the odd bit of skiing. I like gardening and growing my own fruits and vegetables and I had an allotment in the past. I also love bird/nature watching and stargazing.
I try to be a practical/homely person so I'm competent in the kitchen and like to try my hand at DIY. Before Covid I completed a woodworking evening class.

I'm looking for a caring, honest, kind, vegetarian/vegan and non-smoking woman. Someone who would get as excited as me about gardening, watching wildlife, hiking up a hill, going ceilidh dancing or watching a classical music concert. I'd be very happy to be introduced to your hobbies and interests too, of course.
I'm quite a romantic person, therefore I'm looking for someone who would like to snuggle on the sofa or share a back rub and candle-lit bubble bath.
My dream is to have a small holding somewhere in the Yorkshire Dales or in the Scottish Highlands and islands, especially in my favourite place, Shetland, but I would be happy to share in your dreams too. I'm quite flexible on location now that homeworking is a thing and I have no problem with a long distance relationship to start off with (although across the street feels like a long distance at the moment!).
I wouldn't be compatible with a Tory, Brexiter or anti-vaxer; and I am not keen on dogs, body piercings, fake eyebrows or tattoos, sorry.
