About her
My photos are from all times in my life and are chosen to show some of my interests, although the leeadphhoto is me as I am now, apart from the fact that my hair is more grey now.
I've lived and worked in three countries and have friends around the world. I love immersing myself in different cultures. I consider myself a European though I think the EU (as it is currently organised and managed) is not fit for purpose. I love practising my languages and learning to get by in new ones, as well as the laid-back style of continental life.
As far as music preferences are concerned, my favourite is listening is to classical music but I also like more modern genres such as blues and folk-rock. I enjoy designing and making things to wear and re- or up-cycling things for the home. Because of that I love visiting flea-markets here and abroad as well as charity shops for vintage clothing patterns.
Since retiring from language teaching my latest passion is family history research.
I have absolutely no interest in competitive sports -- I even became a school librarian to get out of hockey and cross country runs; though I do enjoy living in the countryside.
Although I used to enjoy long country walks, a recent accident to my back now makes long hikes but a memory. That notwithstanding, I still love or especially exploring old towns in the UK and in Europe where a good cafe is never too far away. Recent trips include an archaeological rour of Western Turkey and a solo trip to Lake Garda. I also plan to take one of my frequent trips to Germany as soon as the Covid situation makes it safe again. I am independant by nature, and don't mind living alone, well, most of the time anyway.
After a loving, though brief, marriage and later happy and fulfilling relationships, I now find I miss having that important special person in my life to travel with and share other experiences with. What I understand the Americans call a friendship "with benefits".
About her ideal match
My ideal man should share at least some of my interests (especially the musical ones). However, in an ideal, world team sports should not be one of his overwhelming interests as I am non-competitive and non-tribal by nature.
He should be an interesting conversationalist and enjoy a spirited discussion, (including politics and religion) though not be too critical and intolerant of others' views if they differ from his own. I admit I can be a little opinionated at times, but deep down really hate disagreements or heated arguments.
My soulmate should be a bon-viveur: appreciate the beauty in both nature and art and enjoy the good things in life: food, drink, travel --- and "siestas" . He should enjoy cooking as much as I do and enjoy trying out different cuisines. A "Pratchett-esque" sense of humour would be a plus.
My ideal would be to find a loving friend who lives not too far away for it to be feasible for us to visit each other often; take trips together in the UK and overseas, especially Europe; someone who enjoys old school romance, hugs and kisses and all that that can lead to..
He should enjoy cultural evenings out, a night at the concert hall, or the ballet and be happy to dress appropriately for such an evening without complaining (well not too much anyway) even if normally he is only truly comfortable in jeans). But he should also enjoy quiet evenings in with a good meal and a good bottle of wine. Walking (meandering) in the countryside or on a beach, and taking time to "smell the roses" would be something he and I could enjoy together, or perhaps visiting a stately or historical pile and garden.
Finally, he should enjoy travelling around this country as well as different parts of Europe, but as an independent cultural traveller rather than a tourist on a package tour or (heaven forfend) a cruise.
A deal-breaker would be an ultra-right-wing, smoker to whom anything foreign or "European" is total anathema.
