About her
I'm a reasonably attractive but rather nerdy history buff with a love of the long eighteenth century and a fondness for Patrick O'Brian novels. I dabble in historical food; I make marvellous venison pasties and excellent tamarind ice cream. Occasionally I do historical cookery demonstrations for the National Trust but my day job is in academic publishing. I'm fond of hiking but my navigation skills are pretty awful. I go running and sometimes riding. I'm a slightly unpredictable mix of the implusive and the planner. I love to dance but my tastes are a bit idiosyncratic. Although I live in London at present, I'm starting to feel as though I've served my time here. I grew up in a village. I'm more at home in the country than the city and I feel as though it might be time to resettle somewhere a bit less urben. I adore my niece and nephew and my two more-or-less-grown-up stepsons, Henry and Kristian. They insist I should add that I'm a Wicked Stepmother. In the modern sense of the word 'wicked' apparently. Also, a hopeless tea addict.

What matters to me most is finding someone who understands what it's like to be part of a great team and is looking for that quality in a rich, rewarding, relationship that's an adventure all by itself. I'm hoping for someone who is delighted by the idea of trying out an extraordinary 1787 pie recipe with me, perfectly happy to go to Venice on a whim, isn't averse to the idea of a week in Colonial Williamsberg, would happily learn to sail with me, will cheerfully neice-and-nephew sit with me now and then, will not be uncomfortable if I occasionally shed a couple of tears for my late husband and understand that it has no bearing on my feelings for anyone else, enjoys pottering around a market and meandering around antique shops, wouldn't be phased by the idea of trekking in India on mahawari horses but is quite happy to spend a chilly afternoon reading in front of the fire and take turns making the tea. And if you brought me coffee in bed every morning, my world would be complete. But it's not a deal breaker, I promise.
