About her
Unconventional in some ways and very much tickled by the absurd, but otherwise direct and no-nonsense in important matters, I am a steady, capable and elegant vessel looking to dock, possibly with permanent moorings.
One-time scholarly author of an obscure book, if I could afford to retrain in the arts, I would. A creative disposition on the one hand, with a deference to fact and the record on the other: difficult to combine in today's world, but I usually go my own way and am comfortable in my own skin.
Lasting friendships, comfortable intimacies and occasional nice experiences are what I am after in life, though I would rather explore these with a mate and, ideally, a lovely dog. Somehow it hasn't worked out that way yet: I have been lucky to know some very lovely gentlemen and remain optimistic. Having moved around a bit for work and PhD study in recent years, I am quite happy and re-settled in London, but have a latent pang for a more peaceful, pastoral setting. Can one have both? Glamour is all very well on occasion, and I can do that, but well-worn comfort and laughter is the goal.
About me: Likes to get out and meet people, the occasional drink, the occasional party, the occasional talk (and giving them), theatre and arts. Would do a lot more eating out and theatre if resources allowed. Equally happy pottering at home, sewing, decorating, mending, DIY, reading. Having done plenty of international travelling, I would now like to enjoy more of what is on my doorstep, occasional adventures notwithstanding. Probably born into the wrong generation, but at ease with this and myself.

Cautious about relationships mediated by technology. Shy about sports and would likely disappoint somebody very sporty, though with encouragement I could try new things as I like getting out. My adopted niece makes a powerful first impression. At first sight, she appeared striking, stylish and sophisticated but I had no idea who she was. Just that she was the best dressed person in the building. Later, we met by chance at a gathering and I immediately knew where I had seen her before. She was soon a warm and amusing friend and we have shared many a film and conversation. She is intelligent without pretension and balances that with an impressive range of practical skills. This is a lady who knows how to use a power tool and much else besides.
