About him
Bit of an old fashioned romantic - still opens doors - and walks on the outside. I am retired from a career in local government for 18 years - and before that sales and marketing for a few years. I had great job with a team in the local authority helping people from Europe (mainly Poland / Czech Republic, Latvia & Hungary) plus Asia and Africa to settle here and find work, education and new careers in Scotland.
I like books but struggle to finish a book. Just now I am reading War & Peace and when I finish I will attempt to read another Tolstoy masterpiece - Anna Karenina.
My main hobbies are listening to Music - all genres from early Tudor to Baroque, Romantic era of Rachmaninoff - Tchaikovsky etc, love The Blues, R&B, Gospel (especially South African) The Great American songbook, - and yes I have listened to Classic FM since it launched plus Radio 3. As a young man I did some amateur DJ work playing all music from sixties and seventies. Some of my favourite artists are (too many to mention all) but people like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond, Dionne Warwick, Leonard Cohen, Jim Croce, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Jimmy Durante,
I also enjoy photography, driving and love to cook but yet to master the art of baking ( but I would prefer to share the kitchen).
I love travel and in the past few years have been to South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, China (6 times), Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Med Cruise, Sweden & UAE. I would love to see Jerusalem.
I like to watch films either in cinema or at home with a glass of wine or a malt whisky. Some of my favourite films are Dr Zhivago, Casablanca, Schindlers List, Saving Private Ryan, Lawrence of Arabia, Tom Hanks films, Guess Whose Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night, Gladiator, Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, Killing Fields, Zulu, Shawshank Redemption, the Colour Purple, Blues Brothers, etc.
