About him
A bit of a jester who enjoys cryptic crosswords, walking his beloved dog, listening to classical music, opera and ballet. Has an interest in history. Likes gardening, DIY and art. I have travelled widely and worked abroad. I love to cook and entertain my family and friends. I believe myself to be a civilised gentleman. I am not a great lover of politics, but enjoy a good laugh at politicians. I was married to a lovely lady whom I lost to Covid_19 in January after 64 years together. I adored her since we were sweethearts at 15. I believe there must be someone out there with whom I could be happy again. I was born in Palestine because my father who was serving in the R.A.F. was posted there, accompanied by his family. I was registered as British and returned to England before my first birthday. I served in the Royal Navy for 32 years rising from Able Rate to Lt Commander and was sent to study Arabic at the Middle East Centre for Arabic Studies in 1958 where I graduated A1 and was told this was the equivalent of a university pass degree, I also hold bridge watchkeeping and ocean navigation certificates. When I left the R.N. I worked for the Sultan of Oman for nine years in SOLF in the rank of Lt Colonel where I was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. I share my life now with a lovely GSD X Rottweiler who loves people and is friendly with other dogs, but territorial in the home and may dominate (terrify!) any other dog who tries to enter. Finally, I should like to say that I am in very good shape for my age: I have just taken down an old greenhouse including breaking up its concrete base and built a new, larger one. I love DIY and enjoy woodwork, bricklaying, dry stone walling and gardening as well as cooking and walking Jasmine the dog. If only I could find a lovely lady to walk with us hand in hand, I was captain of the RN cricket team in Aden and of the Hidden Valley golf club in Oman.

I am looking for an attractive, active lady who can share my interests and help me to regain the drive and zest for life that I had before my wife died. Ideally she would be a home owner as my house is in a trust of which I am the beneficiary. We could share in my dog walking, gardening and go to the opera, ballet and orchestral concerts together. I have a great deal of love left in me to give to the right lady. You will never know what you are missing unless you give it a try. I would not expect a partner to wish to share all my interests, nor would I necessarily share all hers. Surely there must be someone out there whom I could love and care for.
