About him
I don't know that they should. It depends on what they're looking for. I'm a retired philosophy professor, who loves classical music, art, birding, hiking, wine, Japanese sencha, and travel. My late wife made me 10x a better person than I was 40 years ago, but she would say there's still acres of room for improvement. And she was rarely wrong about anything. Most of my friends think I can be funny, but if I am, it's likely only with people who already know and like me. I suppose most people who know me think I'm smart, but that's largely a confusion: it's just that I have lots of education, a law degree and a Ph.D. I'm actually just of average intelligence. I think what I enjoy doing more than anything else is talking with a interesting and intelligent woman.
About his ideal match
I don't think it's possible to describe the specific qualities I'm looking for. I'm open to all kinds of possibilities; but someone who shared some of my own interests, identified above, would obviously be most appealing. A similar sense of humor is probably important. The idea of a Norwegian Blue in the Monty Python sketch about the dead parrot might be a good litmus test. If someone didn't think that was funny, I probably wouldn't be able to understand them very well. I do believe I prefer someone who is quiet and thoughtful rather than loud and eruptive. It's easier to say what qualities would be a deal-breaker, for example someone who wasn't committed to basic honesty, or who didn't mind humiliating another person, or who frequently lost her temper, or who thought about money or possessions most of the time. But as I've aged, I think much more about my own faults and flaws, and less about those of others.
