About her
I’m a very happy person and I’d like to share that happiness with someone equally positive. I love to travel, I play bridge, I do Tai Chi outdoors all the year round, I love walking and board games, I still do a bit of writing (I’m a retired academic), and LOTS of reading. After retiring, I ran conferences all over Europe and it was a fun way of staying in fascinating places. My favourite city is Prague. I have an inexhaustible curiosity about people and this rackety old world. I’m very interested in politics, and how people act out ( or suppress!) their cherished values in their political life. I value tolerance, open-mindedness and, above all, kindness. I am passionate about mountains, wild places and deserts but am equally at home sitting in a North London cafe and watching the world go by. I love movies and at the moment seem to be on a foreign language streak, being especially drawn to French movies, such as Eric Rohmer’s. Live music is hugely important to me: I’d like to go to more live jazz. I sing in a choir and come out buzzing! I think the best way to get to know people is by talking face to face rather than endless messaging or screen time. I have four amazing adult children and six grandchildren, and of course they’re an important part of my life. I was lucky in my work life to encounter people who had done terrible things, as well as people who had had a really raw deal in life. Each and every one of them was interesting and valuable in one way or another. Through working with them, I probably got an over-developed sense of empathy, but I’m working hard on being more ruthless on long journeys……….. I like to travel, especially on trains and ships, and in the past I have spent a lot of time in the mountains in Andalucia. Morocco is a recent discovery.

I don’t think it’s possible to have a blueprint in mind, but clearly intelligence, tolerance, laughing at the same things, and shared values, all matter. A willingness to share knowledge, education and experience is vital. Kindness and cheerfulness are things I really value in other people. Being a forever curious person, I’d like someone who has similar curiosity, about people, culture, human behaviour and every facet of our extraordinary planet.
