About him
I’m decent, straightforward and kind. Intelligent and fairly cultivated. I’ve a robust sense of humour. I’m tall, slim and reasonably fit, but not sporty. I’m a bit of a rebel at heart. My beard is recent and optional but I quite like it. I think I’m generally a nice bloke. Not everyone’s taste of course but I don’t want everyone!
I enjoy bursts of activity sometimes but I’m happy, at others, with my own company and being more relaxed. My work life was perpetually busy and stressful. I like the balance that I have now.
I was a criminal lawyer with my own firm for many years. I loved the drama and ritual combat of the courtroom (and still miss it). On retiring from that I ran some beautiful holiday cottages near the sea in Devon. I sold those and am living presently in London nearer my children while I consider my next move in life’s adventure.
I enjoy the pleasures of London particularly in terms of culture - theatre, opera, music, galleries, museums and much more. I love history and art and buildings.
I also love countryside and coast. Walking and exploring.
I really want to divide my time between city and country with a good few foreign adventures thrown in.
I should like a partner to share some or all of this with.
After 40 years of a happy marriage I suddenly became a widower. I am only now getting over that but I feel young still and am looking for someone to be with into the future.
About his ideal match
I should like to find someone with whom to find mutual contentment. Someone amusing and amused, clever, strong and, to me at least, lovely. Some interests in common but not all (that would be boring). Someone with whom there is attraction. Chemistry. A mutual excitement. Perhaps someone slightly out of the ordinary.
I think there tends to be a degree of parity in a successful relationship in terms of personality, background, education and solvency among other things.
This is my ideal. Of course I can compromise. One can get on with the most surprising people so there are no rules, but I’m unlikely to find a match with someone prissy or precious or tied in to an inflexible routine.
