About him
I'm basically shy - honest! - and I'm naturally very quiet. I spent my working life travelling the world, although I now appreciate a more relaxed routine. I am essentially a student who reads for fun and relaxes by going for walks. I am currently studying history, with a focus on North Wiltshire in the 1600s. But that doesn't mean that I don't want to travel. There are several places in the world that I want to go to, but ideally with a companion. My favourite pastime just now involves walking to a coffee shop for a latte and a piece of cake, reading for relaxation or study, then walking back again. It's not my fault that I can drink several lattes and eat several pieces of cake per week and not put on weight. I enjoy waking up and going to sleep with Classic FM on the radio, but prefer to listen to the occasional hour or two of Boom Radio during the day. Am I allowed to say that? All the photos I've tried to load are from the last 10 years. And I honestly haven't changed much. Except that one or two show me with a wedding ring. Which parted company with my finger about 3 years ago and I am now well and truly divorced. One of them is my all-time favourite selfie. The one with the wine bottles was staged! These days I'm strictly a two-units-per-week person. I tried to load one photo that showed me when I was five years old. If and when I meet my ideal match, that will be an opening ice-breaker. The latest photo was 3 July this year (2025), taken at Edgbaston (England v India cricket test match).
About his ideal match
My ideal match would be somebody who is about the same age as me, and has roughly the same interests as me. I’d hope that there are some books which we have both read, but I’d expect that our different reading habits would be a topic of conversation, not a reason for an argument. My ideal partner would also have a part-time hobby / activity, and we would share an interest in each other’s activities, yet we would not have to change our own routines to fit in with each other. What would be great would be to find somebody else who enjoys a regular 2-4 mile walk, who might want me join them on their walks, but wouldn’t mind sharing that walk with somebody who doesn't talk very much. You don’t have to come to the same Pilates sessions as me, and I don’t have to come to Yoga with you. What would be a deal maker? - somebody who enjoys baking. What would be a deal breaker? - let's discuss that one later. My idea of a good time would be either) a walking holiday somewhere warm, preferably with nights in a 4/5* hotel; definitely no camping. Or b) a 3/4-day break in either Chichester or Stratford, taking in a couple of plays (needs careful planning, but can be done) and at least one pre-show dinner and at least one good walk.
