Communication is everything. I don't have the luxury of decades ahead to learn someone's quirks. I expect to talk into the night over the phone or Zoom. Together we need to cover everything - our past, out hopes for the future, our struggles and our children. I've learnt that there's no time for resentment or grudges. I've had previous marriages (1 divorce and recent widowhood), and need to let go. The key is to communicate openly and honestly, but also with kindness. Laugh at stubbornness, learn to compromise and forget the rest. I want too truly enjoy our shared interests. Though life has been busy, I make time for simple pleasures: a good detective series on TV or a cosy night in. It's not always easy navigating new family dynamics. I've learnt to give my step-children space, and they have learnt to accept me as part of their late mother's life. I want attraction to be about who we are, not how we look. The intensity of physical passion may not be the same as it was in my youth, but that doesn't mean the spark isn't there. Now, its about trust, and the joy of being in each other's company. I'm in my 70s, and come with experiences, relationships, and baggage that have shaped who I'm today. While we don't need to share everything at once, open conversations about important topics like family, money, religious faith and values are essential for building a strong foundation. Dating comes with a freedom that's hard to find when you're younger. I'm not worried about impressing anyone. For me, it's about being together, enjoying life, and supporting each other in whatever comes next.
