The Beast allows me 6 hours sleep before breakfast, his that is. Then it’s porage, Yorkshire Gold, un café and the New York Times. Observer at the weekend. Spot of housework.
Practical sort of chap, I’m not too bothered what it looks like, more importantly, it’s got to work properly. Bit like cars really.
A brisk 2 mile walk whatever the weather, then Caffè Nero for all the NYT puzzles. A good time to catch up on emails; which by the way is my preference for messaging here.

I’m the only male member of our book group, and our librarian rarely picks male authors. Male librarians being extinct in the East Riding, an oxymoron even. My guess is that men on the whole prefer male writers. Literacy first and foremost though, and Miss Brookner was for me outstanding.
I am very across current affairs and politics. I have been deeply shocked by the events of the past two years in Gaza, and contribute regularly to Oxfam’s Gaza appeal,
A carnivorous aerobic exerciser, pretty fit for my age. I went abroad every year for 20 years until starting a family. I’ve lived and worked in Southern Africa. The rigours of air travel now make it less likely I will go abroad again, at least by aeroplane.
The English language is endlessly fascinating to me. I’m minded to do another OU course. This time perhaps the study of English etymology and grammar. I haven’t yet found a way of satisfactorily setting my profile to cover on the one hand writing online to anyone, anywhere….and on the other to match with someone in my locality whom I might meet. So to the first, international, and the second twenty miles give or take from home.
