About him
Baptized in bilge water and cut my first tooth on a rope - that sort of thing; I blame my father of course. I suppose I've been something of an adventurer; five years in the Royal Navy, a couple in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and over twelve in Muscat, Oman. Just to say that I sail dinghies because 'you get more bang for your buck' - you can have a whole adventure in a day. I've owned a (28') Falmouth Oyster Dredger - converted to cruiser, and skippered a Sigma 38 for the Royal Navy of Oman. Big boats take time, space and money and I'm basically a dinghy sailor, though we took the Oyster Dredger to Greece and back through the French canals. Ashore, a tour of North America with a 'fifth wheel'. Not quite "A puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king". Just the pirate and poet methinks. The personality multiple choice questions really limit and therefore skew any impression they may give. A poet - questionably??

For instance, I ticked 'woodwork' - actually I design, build and then sail my own boats; how do you put that in a box and 'tick' it?? And another thing; I'm a nature loving creek crawler - Give me the quiet edges of the sea, not the rolling deeps, never mind all seven of them, though I've been 'out there' on occasions - very boring. Shows how much nonsense a multiple choice questionaire can create. I now realize some of my photographs are maybe fifteen years old. Some are perhaps four years or so ago. Why? well my camera broke a while back and I had enough on my hands looking after an ailing wife. It took all of those four years before she "went to the arms of the angels" last year. That didn't leave much point in, or time for, photography.

The eye is arguably our most prominent 'special sense', we use it subliminally to assess another; otherwise it's like trying to communicate with someone in a Burqah - having lived in the Middle East, may I say I find that seriously off-putting. A notable minority of lovely ladies (I'm sure), do not present themselves visually. It is so difficult for any potential contact to reverse this conundrum that I gloss straight over them, which is a shame. The visual truth will out sooner or later, and life is complicated enough already, it needs no exacerbation. Some larger sunglasses can have a very similar effect
