About him
I.don't think I could be labelled 'adventurous' in the usual sense, though I did once manage the all-night queue at Wimbledon to get a ticket for the Men's Singles Final - all I had with me were the clothes I stood up in and a small duffel bag with some toiletries - so I suppose that might be classed as foolhardy rather than adventurous!
Nowadays sport, together with politics and current affairs, tend to be subjects I try to pretend don't exist. An unhealthy attitude perhaps, but it at least avoids the anger and disappointment of seeing the wrong people win and the right people letting me down.
These days my interests are mostly sedentary - reading, listening to classical music and struggling with The Times crossword. I have a liking for Shakespeare and Walter Scott (definitely not Jane Austen or Charles Dickens) and my favourite composers at the moment include Brahms, Dvorak, Debussy, Ravel and Poulenc. (Karl Jenkins, however, usually has me reaching for the off switch.)
My last employment was in the area of community learning and development, mainly tutoring local and family history groups, and this has led to me researching the history of a rural school and the community it served. At the moment I have managed to secure a private printing of a book and am now searching for a publisher. I am also trying my hand at writing short stories, though this has not yet progressed much further than the ideas stage.
I have no desire to sail the seven seas or climb any mountains, preferring to get my physical exercise and spiritual comfort & inspiration from walking through the area I live in. Within half an hour I can see birds, trees, flowers, hills, a beach and a river, and I don't have to pay a penny for the privilege! As for clubbing, dining out, going to the cinema and concerts, etc, if I indulged in much of that at today's prices I would be destitute within a month!
If anyone wants to know whether or not I am an animal lover, my response will be "Show me the animal you want me to love".
About his ideal match
Being a non drinking man of limited means, not owning a pet, a passport, a pair of hiking boots or a bicycle, and not being a subscriber to a local theatre or fitness centre, I feel decidedly disadvantaged in this group. However, I still live in hope that somewhere out there is a woman who doesn't want to be the fittest, most travelled, best fed and most entertained woman in the universe, and would settle for a quiet, fairly unadventurous life with a loyal and faithful partner who she would view as central to her life and not merely as a decorative appendage to it, or something she can just manage to fit in to her already busy and well-populated schedule.
