About him
I love both making and listening to music. I play the cello, playing preferably in small chamber ensembles such as string quartet or piano trio, and I enjoy going to concerts, the theatre and opera, and listening to music on the radio. I probably shouldn't say it here, but I don't like that other radio station. If there were a Radio 3 Romance website, I'd be on that instead. If you're on the site via Telegraph Dating, of course, you won't know what on earth I'm talking about. I used to subscribe to Cinema Paradiso and enjoyed their selection of arthouse, foreign language films or the classic films of the 1940s and 50s, but increasingly they don't stock the films I want any more. And I like doing quizzes, even though I never seem to be able to answer many questions!
I try to keep physically fit, playing tennis and going running, and although I have a car, I get to most places, locally at least, on my bike, that is if I'm not taking my cello with me! I try to keep abreast of current affairs, listen to the Today programme occasionally, watch Channel 4 News most evenings, and am a member of Amnesty International, although sadly not as active as I used to be.
I am now effectively retired, working just one day a week. I enjoy my work, but found full-time increasingly tiring, so I'm appreciating the slower pace of life
Holidays? I prefer lakes and mountains to sun, sand or snow. I'm not really an intrepid traveller (at least I can spell it though!), but I'm sure there are some idyllic spots close to home, without jetting half way round the globe.
My three children mean the world to me, of course, and I am thrilled to have maintained a close and loving relationship with them, now that they are young adults, and indeed that they get on so well with each other.
