In Her Own Words

About her

I enjoy going to concerts, theaters and eating out. I belong to a book group which meets once a month. Most of the members are much younger and still have husbands. No men in the group. I joined U3A but have stopped going since my walking has deteriorated and I broke a metatarsal getting on my scooter. I have a wheelchair (not self propelled) which was given to me

Because I lived in Zimbabwe from 1959 to 2002 I have not many friends in this country and the ones I most looked forward to seeing have died. I guess that is to be expected more and more as age advances. Until I came back to England I had a partner but he has since died and I miss his company now. My husband died in 1986 after lingering for three years with a brain tumour. I was in the last year of a degree course and almost gave up but was given tremendous support from tutors and fellow students to press on to the end and managed to get a second (at the University of Zimbabwe which was originally supported by Manchester)

I now look forward to finding a male or female companion to visit local attractions such as the beautifully restored Tivoli Theater in Wimborne and further afield if they have a car a strength to get a wheelchair into their boot!

About her ideal match

Someone who can offer companionship and mutual interests. Must have the patience to cope with a very slow mover! Plus the willingness and strength to cope with moving a wheelchair about.
