In His Own Words

About him

My beloved partner died just over a year ago, leaving me feeling utterly bereft. We had been together for 40 years and, apart from our working lives, had done most things together. Despite having a circle of good friends, I feel empty and lonely, and have come to realise that I can only function meaningfully as half of a two-person relationship. Are you in the same boat? Have you lost the love of your life and are seeking a way forward? If so, then we may be able to help each other.

Summer 2014: it's now over two years since my partner died and, reading what I've written above, it comes over as a bit desperate, which may put some potential contacts off. Let me make it clear that I am now in the market for friendship first and foremost, and if that leads to anything else, then so be it, but, if not, then friendship is sufficient. And I'm good company (so I'm told!)

About his ideal match

You would be looking for a meaningful relationship through which to enrich - or patch up - your life. Companionship, sharing experiences, physical closeness, would be of great importance. Compatibility of sex-drive would be a positive bonus, but not essential (I'm 69!) You would not be "into" the gay scene (elderly men who are into the gay scene are tragic), nor obviously would you be looking for a younger man - see age caveat above! You would be happy to share my bed, and my love of walking (all-terrain), the beach (naked), theatre, all forms of classical music, foreign holidays, reading, food and drink, card-playing, games of an intellectual nature, the company of (mainly heterosexual) friends. But, don't worry, you needn't have the intellect of grandson-of-Einstein - my late partner didn't - nor would you need to be good at any of these activities - just open to them. Finally, you would not be a toy-boy looking for an old fool to finance your lifestyle.

You would love giving and receiving affection - I have a lot of affection to give, and miss dreadfully having someone to give it to.

Summer 2014: the above was written at a time of intense grief over my loss, and, reading it now, it all seems very demanding! Let me make it clear that I am not seeking a grief-counsellor, but will settle for the chance of making new friends. Anything further is in the lap of the gods.
