About him
Although I have been a sports journalist for much of my career, my interests stretch way beyond sport. I love music, the theatre and movies with nothing better in my book than a night at the opera followed by (or prefaced by) a nice meal for two.
I relax by watching television or, better still, researching my family history, while I enjoy quizzes, games and puzzles and compile crosswords and other puzzles on a professional basis.
I enjoy travelling, though I am not great at lazing on beaches preferring to explore and discover. If there is a chance to go horse racing in some far-flung outpost so much the better.
I am lucky enough to be able to pick and choose what work I do these days and so have plenty to keep me occupied without losing sight of the important things in life.
Experience has taught me to value every minute of every day and to understand the true importance of relationships. I love to love and be loved. There is nothing better in life.
I am known for my sense of humour, which has helped me make a second career of after dinner speaking.
