About him
I'm an easy going and laid back kind of person but believe in caring for the planet and for those less fortunate than ourselves. I try to live as ethical and environmentally friendly a life as possible, and am always pleased to meet like-minded people.
I can be rather shy and reserved at first, but I feel more confident as I get to know someone better. In my spare time I like going walking and visiting castles, museums and historical monuments.
I am a keen traveller, but apart from one world tour I have so far always stuck to Europe, mainly France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, as I have friends in all of those countries. I wouldn't necessarily rule out going outside Europe again at some point, but probably not in the near future because of work commitments.
About his ideal match
I would hope to meet someone with a similar attitude to life and to the world to me. My Christian faith is also very important to me, and I would ideally like to meet someone who shares my faith, preferably from a similar church background to mine though this is not essential. I attend an Anglican church that has a reputation for its liberal and progressive ethos.
I would like to meet someone caring and easy-going who I can share walks, meals out, quiet nights in and visits to concerts and the cinema with.
Non-smokers only please, and I would also really prefer to meet someone who doesn't already have children.

I have known Alan for about 20 years. He is a good and clear communicator and also very committed about attending meetings - to which he is always punctual.
He is a committed member of the Green Party and is a very hardworking in the Sheffield area, for instance through delivering leaflets at local election and General Election times. Alan is very pro-Europe and is a keen member of groups with this interest at heart. He has travelled a lot within Europe and has friends in several countries on the Continent - as well as many in this country, particularly those he has met through church and his walking group.
Alan is a kind person. He enjoys socialising and is interested in eating out at restaurants featuring different cuisines. He is a committed vegetarian.
All in all, Alan is a good and loyal friend and an active and hardworking member of the organisations with which he is involved.

I've known Alan for a good 10 years now, and a more reliable and loyal person you could not ask to meet. If Alan says he'll do something, be it campaigning for the Green Party, serving at church communion services, or meeting you somewhere for a drink or a meal, you can be sure he'll be there just like he said.
You don't often meet people with such passion for things as Alan either. He obviously loves spending time with his friends and will make time for them, too; his love of travel is seemingly boundless; and his committment to social and environmental justice cannot be questioned. In fact I think it is these last 2 especially that make us such good friends.
We often have each other in fits of laughter, too - there's no doubt that Alan's got a good sense of humour. And the time I'll probably best remember is when me and him did a duet to bid goodbye to another friend of ours who was moving cities, only rather than find a song that said what we wanted, Alan wrote alternative words to the 80s hit 'Hey Mickey', re-titling it 'Hey Wendy'.
