About her
Generally speaking, I am a confident, independent and self-motivated person. I do not necessarily follow trends or fashion. So no surprise I am not a fan of celebrity culture. I cannot understand why people stand around waiting for someone they don't really know under guises such as this or "royalty".
Whether through choice, fate or luck, I have taken a very individual path in life - I opted to develop and learn as much through travel and living and working overseas, as through academic learning. Though living in five different countries overseas and eight different cities in the UK over the last thirty years, has enabled me to meet some wonderful people and form some lasting friendships, it has not led me to find that special someone who I would like to spend the rest of my life with.
People who know me - and what I have been through - tell me I am a very strong, resilient person. Life experiences, extraordinary highs and life-changing lows, have also enabled me to develop and further substantiate my own thoughts, opinions and values.
Passion, motivation and conviction are key to what I do in life. As someone who is often bothered by injustice and inequality, I feel those who are blessed in life have a greater responsibility. Two years ago I became an active volunteer with the Age Friendly Steering Group . This year I was awarded the Charles Maher Award for my two years of campaigning for safety and accessibility for pedestrians. Though I consider most awards rather egotistical, this, for me, was more about not feeling alone in my activism.
Now I will jump to two things I have learnt from the last two and a half years and in the last five weeks. The former has been the ease with which one can be played despite knowing someone for decades, when feelings overwhelm and are "reciprocated". I guess saying "we should seize the moment" and doing it are two different things. I am trying really hard not to live with regrets, hope you don't too. Honesty and faithfulness are critical in any relationship for me. However, what is also becoming apparent, having been on several websites, is courtesy. It never ceases to amaze me how members write volumes about been considerate, caring... and so on, and yet don't pen a short note to express whether they want to communicate further or are not interested.
On the same note therefore, communication is key to me. This quality covers a number of other areas that attract me to a person - their confidence, body language, ability to converse with intelligence, humility, emotion, care and interest. Also the reverse side of this "coin", the ability to listen - not just hear - but actually take on board what has been said and remember.
I would love to be able to laugh with someone and feel totally at ease to be myself. I do find it difficult to relax (blame my mother!), so someone who enables me to let go and not stress over the little things would be a great partner. I also have a very serious side and to have someone to discuss topics that are controversial or intellectual would be very attractive. I'd like to think I am learning from him as he is from me. To have the opportunity to share my life and its experiences be they past, present and future, with that person and he with me, would I hope, create the final bond.
