About her
I'm kind and (I think!) funny. Have been ruled by my caring role for too long, now it's time to get my life back and start living it again. To be clear, some of my time and attention is still needed in supporting a bright young adult (gradually finding their way to greater independence). I love poetry, literature, rare books, music, University Challenge, odd, original, authentic things. Not fanatical, but the environment matters to me and I try to care for it. I like cooking and am trying to learn more about gardening too. Nature helps to ground me in this crazy world.
My outlook is open and curious, seeking what's true and genuine wherever it can be found. I do want to leave the earth a better place than I found it even in small ways. Decency, honesty, equality, tolerance and justice matter to me. Hearing others, being heard, and allowing personal space as needed. Meanness, arrogance, self-pity, prejudice, paranoia and mind games are not for me. Friendship and mutual respect is the best starting point, so perhaps a good friend is out there.

Mature, empathetic and grounded, a good communicator unafraid at times to stand up for the underdog (not the canine kind!... fonder of cats than of dogs, actually). A generous person with a strong sense of self, integrity and no need to pretend or impress others. Ready to put others' needs ahead of their own when that matters, able to take a lead where necessary, but also no pushover. My perfect match is likely to be an independent thinker, not a crowd-follower, never a victim. Maybe liberal/left-leaning in values and outlook... No Brexiteers or climate change deniers. Some similar interests, hopefully. Above all a keen and edgy sense of humour. I'd miss this person when they weren't there, because I'd know they'd always have my back - as I would have theirs.
