About him
I've had a very interesting life, 20 years in Hong Kong, and 22 in Australia. Absolutely no regrets. My career was in the commercial sector for many years and later in social care (supporting people with Alzheimer's and adults with autism). In 2021 I switched to something less stressful, delivery driving, and now I stack shelves at a supermarket, four days a week, work I really enjoy because of customer contact and it keeps me really fit. Returned to my roots in 2018, mainly to help my sister (my best mate) care for our Mum (since deceased). I take an interest in people, as everyone has a story. Smiling comes easily to me and I like to think I have a great sense of humour. Very resilient as I've had some challenging episodes but have always remained optimistic. Problems don't last forever. Good health is more important than anything. Sport has played an important part in my life, mainly rugby, football and cricket, but I'm now mainly an armchair fan, though I enjoy an occasional game of golf, not that I'm any good compared to my two professional brothers. Still working as everyone has to have a purpose in life and retirement is not on my agenda, partly for financial reasons. If my body starts feeling the strain, then my fallback is to teach English as a foreign language. I've had a positive effect on many lives through my books and hope to influence many more people. Reading and listening to music are my main pleasures, aside from good food and drink. I enjoy visits to the theatre, cinema, ballet, opera and concerts. The bad news is that I am not a dog lover, though I do enjoy cats. I am not wealthy and live very comfortably in social housing. I miss the companionship, love, and care that a true relationship brings but recognise that it starts with friendship. Romance might come later and I enjoy sharing hugs and holding hands. I believe I have a lot to offer. For me, it’s not about being lonely, I am never bored. There is a lot of living to be done. If we can make each other laugh, then that's a good start.
About his ideal match
Someone well-travelled who takes an interest in people and world affairs. An interest in sport would be welcome but is not essential. Someone who does not have the TV on in the background, is not glued to their phone, and who prefers a good book, music, and enjoying food and drink. Someone still inclined to travel, both nationally and overseas (I've never been to Greece!). Above all, someone with no regrets, has a positive outlook on life, and who loves a hug and holding hands.
