About him
I've been one of life's late developers, graduating at 36, by which time I'd already started 20 years' work in university research and teaching, and I retired after a further 14 as a business analyst in the public sector. I spend a lot of time doing DIY, gardening, reading, and listening to music. I enjoy travelling, preferably with a modest carbon footprint, to places both familiar and new, and I really miss having a companion - to share the laughs with, above all else. I like to spend time outdoors, when the weather permits, especially in the country; sauntering down footpaths, or enjoying the peace of cruising the canal system. I follow cricket commentaries, and tackle cryptic crosswords. I'm definitely easygoing, and I've never been much into commercialism or conspicuous consumption.
I like all animals; I have none at present, though I did at one time have 5 cats! Well, it wasn't at just one time, it was about 20 years ... sadly all passed on now, and I'm contemplating replacement(s), maybe even a dog.
I'm a competent and occasionally inventive cook, always with an eye to healthy eating, and I do actively keep fit - anything which'll help extend my active years beyond my allotted 3-score-and-10 ! A few years ago, I discovered modern jive dancing, and I'd be very happy to take it up again, should I find a willing partner.
Something else I should mention: under 'Important Qualities', this site doesn't offer a tickbox for politeness or courtesy. If it did, it would have been the first that I'd've ticked; I'll tolerate anyone's honestly-held, non-malevolent opinions, but I deplore discourtesy. Thank-you for reading this far!
Later addendum: It's a sad reflection, but I receive fewer communications, rather than more, since including the paragraph above. Who'd have thought that a plea for courtesy would be a deterrent?

Sharing a love of music of almost any genre (but including, hopefully, blues, soft rock, and 60s' pop), and a liking for the countryside, will be fairly important. A similarly twisted sense of humour would be most appreciated!
