About him
I am a curious about most things; each day is an opportunity to learn something about something. My daughters will have strong views on how good I am putting that learning into practice. Probably good with things they might say, less good with teenagers 😕.
I am mostly retired now from a career in engineering. I do a bit of consultancy from time to time.
I enjoy cooking for friends, sometimes a bit seriously; I really enjoy the local countryside, looking out for the wildlife and doing a bit of rough shooting for the pot. Quiet days are spent on some house/furniture project or other in the workshop or the garden by the stream.
I have travelled quite widely for both work and leisure, with the experiences to match from the northen lights at -30C in Finland to dugout canoe building in Zanzibar. I can speak a bit of French after a day or two there.
I am very amicably separated, living in a quirky upside down old Cotswold mill by a stream, and occasionally I am awarded custody of the family dog, who is really rather fun, nowadays a little less prone to stealing pizza.
As for the kind of chap I am: traditional old-school values especially good manners, honest and kind, I like helping people out, and love making anyone laugh. I am comfortable in my own space, and comfortable for a partner to have her space too. It’s when the spaces overlap the wondrous things happen.
Above everything, though, I am trying to do my bit in bringing up two teenage daughters. Helping my eldest learn to drive is proving more of a bundle of laughs than I had expected.
