About him
Friends tell me I'm independent, dependable, and determined (when the going gets tough......). One of them recently told me I'm the most down-to-earth person he knows. I would like to add that I'm fit and very active (running, hiking, skiing, singing, ukulele-playing....), young at heart (70 is truly the new 50!) and like to think I'm intelligent. And I enjoy a good quiz (as long as there aren't too many questions on sport or popular culture!) My working life has been spent in biomedical research and university teaching, I have lived and worked abroad and am fairly well-travelled (at least within Europe). I love most music and some sports, and think that in both it is better - if possible - to participate rather than spectate. I very much believe in making the most of whatever talents and abilities we have been fortunate enough to be given. But my main outlook is: be honest, strive but don't be greedy, and be thankful for those good things you have.

I'm looking for a down-to-earth, intelligent and practical lady, kind, polite but no nonsense, dismissive of superficiality so almost certainly doesn't use cosmetics, but likely loves children. Pro-European, inquisitive, maybe mischievous, and (importantly) with a get-stuck-in attitude. A believer in the importance of education, and a lover of books and music. A walker and/or runner and/or singer would be ideal, as would someone who believes in the outlook and values of the Scout and Guide movements. Shared values and shared activities, and mutual respect and support, these are what make a relationship work along with - of course - that elusive "chemistry".......
Smokers, cat owners, gamblers, avid watchers of soaps or "reality" TV, believers in Astrology, those impressed by designer labels, and individuals who post profile pictures that are well out of date: sorry, but we'd be wasting each other's time.
