In His Own Words

About him

Loving, caring and reliable. Loves outdoors. A range of passions, including trees, sailing, geography, environment, old buildings, and Africa. Trained as an engineer, and worked overseas, in developing countries for most of career, on such things as village roads, schools & wells. Now semi-retired, running woodlands as an absorbing hobby.
My two UK children are in their 30s, independent, with their own careers. My daughter is married, but no grandchildren so far.
Have significant links with several Asian and African countries, including Zambia, Malawi, and Vietnam. In past 10 years I have worked frequently in Vietnam, sponsoring two young adults in the process. My Vietnamese "daughter" is currently studying here in the UK.
There is also a Welsh theme to life, with both of my blood children living in Wales, and some of the woods being in North Wales. I am not Welsh-speaking, but have a number of good friends from rural North Wales.
Have long been keen on the water - sailing and canoeing for 50 years. Try to fit in a sailing trip each June, somewhere around the coasts of UK or Ireland.
Not as active socially as I should be. I take time to make friends. Evenings out likely to be to a travel or wildlife talk, or similar. Good correspondent, and enthusiastic about email & the internet. Many links with friends and colleagues working in rural development, in Africa and Asia. I still hope to do 1-2 months a year of overseas work, until I reach 70; the professional contact is stimulating.

About his ideal match

A loving and caring lady, who enjoys a range of outdoor activities, such as gardening, walking, camping, cycling or sailing. A lady who likes to share such activities with her partner thereby increasing the mutual pleasure and satisfaction. An interest in history, a fondness for traditional ways of life, and an appreciation of older things - houses, furniture, gardens, hand skills, etc. - could each be positive elements in this person's makeup.
An interest in developing countries, and in travel in developing countries, would be good - an interest in the wider world, both within and beyond the UK, would help to make a good companion.
A lady who enjoys cooking and homemaking would be super, perhaps using home-grown produce in her kitchen. Someone who makes friends more readily than me might be a good thing!
It's probably too much to ask, but a lady who likes sailing would be a special bonus! Equally optimistic would be a tolerance for my enthusiasm for woods and trees!
Overall, a warm and loving person, with a lively mind, open to our amazing world - of nature, of human potential, of opportunity, of variety of experience, on planet earth.
