About him
Loving, caring and reliable. Loves outdoors. A range of passions, including family, trees, wildlife, sailing, geography, environment, old buildings, and Africa. Trained as an engineer, and worked overseas, in developing countries for most of career, on such things as village roads, schools & wells.
Now semi-retired, running woods & nature reserve as an absorbing hobby. My business card describes me as "Forestry and Wildlife Enthusiast"!
My two UK children are married, in their 40s, independent, with their own careers. Just one grand-daughter so far.
Have significant links with several Asian and African countries, including Zambia, Malawi, and Vietnam. Between 2000 & 2010 I worked frequently in Vietnam, sponsoring two young adults in the process. Now married with children, they form core branches of the extended family.
A Birmingham-based Zambian family are also a close and much-loved branch of the tree.
Have long been keen on the water - sailing and canoeing for 60 years. Try to fit in a sailing trip each June, somewhere around the coasts of UK or Ireland.
Socially, I have matured markedly since retiring, with an increasingly wide range of friends - U3A membership has helped this process. Evenings out likely to be to a travel or wildlife talk, or similar. Good correspondent, and enthusiastic about email. Many links with friends and colleagues working in rural development, in Africa and Asia.

A loving and caring lady, who enjoys a range of outdoor activities, such as gardening, walking, wildlife, or sailing. A lady who likes to share such activities with her partner thereby increasing the mutual pleasure and satisfaction. An interest in history, a fondness for traditional ways of life, and an appreciation of older things - houses, furniture, gardens, hand skills, etc. - could each be positive elements in this person's makeup.
An interest in developing countries would be good - an interest in the wider world, both within and beyond the UK, would help to make an empathetic companion.
